Summer Night Breeze 05

Chapter 5: Okay, Okay, Yes, Yes

In the classroom, Xu Yannuo continued to solve problems irritably, not wanting to pay any attention to Chen Ciyi at all.

Chen Ciyi: “Deskmate, how can you be like this? You promised to look out for me, that night…”

Mentioning that night, Xu Yannuo seemed to have her central nervous system poked, suddenly freezing up. The little white rabbit instantly turned into a little hedgehog—the kind that someone was trying to pluck spines from—terrified he might say something earth-shattering that shouldn’t be said. She immediately put down her pen and looked up at him, “What exactly do you want?”

Seeing Xu Yannuo finally react, Chen Ciyi curled his lips into a satisfied smile. He was already excessively good-looking—the kind whose mere glance could not only dissolve anger but instantly turn it into joy. His smile made the whole world seem brighter, but Xu Yannuo only felt increasingly frantic annoyance.

Seeing his smile, Xu Yannuo realized he was just bored and teasing her!

Xu Yannuo ignored him for the rest of the afternoon, treating him as if he were air. During class, she focused intently on her books, and as soon as the bell rang for break, she immediately got up and left the classroom to get some fresh air in the hallway.

Watching Xu Yannuo deliberately trying to distance herself and pretend not to know him, Chen Ciyi didn’t bother her further. During breaks, when she wasn’t in the classroom, he lazily leaned back in his chair, one arm draped over the backrest. His handsome eyes were half-lidded, their outer corners slightly elongated, while his legs stretched out casually as he observed his classmates with an air of leisure.

The learning atmosphere here isn’t as good as his original school. Back at No.2 High, the classroom would be quiet during breaks—students were either busy doing test papers, working on homework the teacher had just assigned in the previous class, or studying independently to fill in their knowledge gaps.

But in this class, hardly any students study during breaks. These classmates, whose names he can’t even recall, either wander aimlessly in the hallway or cluster together chatting after switching seats. The classroom is noisy and chaotic, so it’s no surprise their academic performance falls short of No.2 High. No wonder they had to appoint a dedicated principal specifically to recruit top students from elsewhere.

However, whether the class is quiet or chaotic doesn’t really matter to him. Even at the prestigious No.2 High, he barely attended school—either he was competing or on his way to competitions. On the rare days when nothing was scheduled, he’d often find the teacher’s lectures too boring halfway through and just pack up his bag and go home.

He had already completed all the high school curriculum during middle school.

Bored, he watched the lively atmosphere of the class, casually observing his new classmates whom he didn’t particularly care about. Suddenly, a girl in the class stood up and walked toward him. As she approached, Chen Ciyi’s gaze naturally fell upon her.

Then, the girl stopped in front of him, handed him a note, and tried to act composed while masking her nervousness as she said, “I’m Xu Jingjing, the class monitor. This… this is our class’s… QQ group number. You can join it… whenever you have time.”

Chen Ciyi took the note and replied, “Hmm, thanks.”

After he replied, the class monitor X… what was her name again? He had forgotten.

The class monitor, a certain XX, turned back with a reddened face. Chen Ci casually glanced in the direction she was heading. The girls over there seemed to be watching this side with eager expressions, then poking and nudging each other, their faces a mix of excitement and impatience as they waited for the monitor to return quickly…

The class monitor must be quite popular. They had only been apart for such a short while—just long enough for her to exchange a few words with him—and yet her friends were already waiting so eagerly, unable to hold back?

Chen Ciyi scoffed with a laugh—this class actually had some warmth to it, unlike his previous one where the relationships between classmates were cold and lifeless.

Afterward, Chen Ciyi withdrew his gaze, glanced down at the note, and casually stuffed the slip of paper with the class group’s QQ number into his school uniform pocket before turning his attention to the window.

If it weren’t for Xu Yannuo, he wouldn’t have transferred here!

So what about this time?

He glanced at his phone to check the time, then smiled. At this hour before, he would have been taking a nap at home or sleeping on a plane.

No wonder he felt a bit sluggish.

His thoughts were wandering aimlessly when Chen Ciyi faintly heard a few knocks on the table. He paid no attention, or perhaps didn’t hear them at all. Then the knocking sound came again, this time more urgent, clearly laced with impatience!

It wasn’t until the third round of knocking that Chen Ciyi finally realized—belatedly—that it was directed at him.

Knocking on his table?

??

This is the first time in his life someone dared to bang on his desk!

Chen Ciyi turned his head to look, not angry but rather intrigued. This class was truly interesting—not only did it have an oddball like Xu Yannuo, but there was also someone bold enough to slam his desk like that.

Chen Ciyi sized up the boy in front of him. The boy was of average height, with a somewhat burly build, and his appearance was… hard to describe. Though he looked plain and unassuming at first glance, his facial expression was… all swagger and bluster, like some chuunibyou wannabe boss of the class, glaring as if to say, “You’re just a clueless newbie—know your place.”

Looks like he’s really pushing it!

Chen Ciyi had no interest in watching him bounce around. Feeling drowsy but unable to sleep in the new environment, he turned his gaze back to the window. He thought the guy would leave on his own after getting bored, but ignoring him only seemed to provoke his anger.

Li Wei slammed his hand on Chen Ciyi’s desk, looking down at him with a hostile tone, “New kid, let’s get acquainted. I’m Li Wei!”

Resting his slender, elegant fingers against his cheek, Chen Ciyi glanced drowsily out the window and responded with a casual “Mm,” as if to say, “Alright, got it. You can leave now.”

But somehow, this guy not only didn’t leave, but also went on an endless rant about his self-introduction. “What kind of attitude is this? Fine, you’re new here and don’t know how things work, I can’t blame you… but don’t say I didn’t warn you. In this class, let me put it this way… if you disrespect me, you won’t even need me… others… you’d better watch your step in this class from now on. I’m saying this for your own good… I’m easygoing, so I won’t hold it against you as a newcomer… Go ask around in every class. In Class 8, when I, Li Wei, say one… if I, Li Wei, am unhappy, the whole class…”

What exactly he said, Chen Ciyi didn’t listen carefully nor remember, but he just felt that even flies weren’t as annoying as him.

Chen Ciyi frowned slightly and finally withdrew his gaze to look at Li Wei in front of him. “Alright, alright… yes, yes… I got it.” Get lost already, you big idiot!

Having received a response and seeing that Chen Ciyi didn’t refute it—which counted as approval—that Li whatever-his-name-was finally nodded in satisfaction and left.

Chen Ciyi’s ears were finally at peace. Feeling rather listless, he didn’t bother Xu Yannuo for the rest of the afternoon.
