Why Not Be Happy 01 Part 07

Chapter 1 The Closest Yet Farthest Person (Seven)

Pang Dunhuang was taken aback by Qiu Wei’s expression.

Qiu Wei quickly wiped her eyes, swiftly gathered Suixin in her arms, turned around, and walked away with her head bowed. Pang Dunhuang felt a slight unease, glanced back. The corridor behind was already empty. As if realizing something, he took a few steps forward and saw a group of doctors and nurses in white robes entering the inpatient building at the back.

“Who were those people just now?” he asked, staring at the group.

“Doctors,” the guard replied.

Pang Dunhuang thought for a moment. In a hospital, seeing a group of people in white coats appear anywhere was perfectly normal.

He turned and saw these dull-witted guards, suddenly feeling a surge of anger.

“A bunch of useless fools! You can’t even keep an eye on a child! What good are you?” Pang Dunhuang turned around and cursed angrily. “Keep a close watch! If anything unexpected happens, you won’t need to wait for Commander Tao to come back—you’ll have it coming!”

“Yes, sir!”

Pang Dunhuang snatched up his military cap and furiously scratched his head.

He was drenched in sweat from the chaotic running just now.

His heartbeat was a bit fast at the moment, which made him especially irritable…

Inside the inpatient building, Katherine Cheng continued to lead the doctors on their rounds.

“Tao Suixin, she’s Commander Tao’s daughter, right? Suixin… such a well-chosen name.”

“But isn’t it also quite greedy?”

“Yes… Everything as one wishes, truly as one wishes?”

“The Tao family is like a feudal lord, their wealth rivaling a nation, yet they still seek everything as they wish.”

“Just a name. For now, in order to resist the war, the Tao family is also contributing their all for the country, which is rare…”

“So, let Commander Tao have everything as he wishes, in reality.”

While heading upstairs to the second floor, the two Chinese doctors were quietly chatting. The rest of the foreign doctors remained silent—either due to language barriers or a lack of interest in the conversation—and did not join in. The discussion quickly shifted back to the patients and medical cases at hand.

Catherine nearly stumbled on the stairs, but fortunately, Mei Yanchun steadied her.

“Are you all right?” Mei Yanchun asked softly, noticing that Catherine seemed a bit distracted.

Catherine nodded.

“There are still two departments left… obstetrics and pediatrics.” Mei Yanchun glanced at the form in her hand. Katherine Cheng was originally a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology. As the hospital director, today she was inspecting all the wards and departments.

Katherine nodded again, indicating that she remembered. However, before inspecting the pediatric ward, she claimed she wasn’t feeling well and left early, without asking Mei Yanchun to accompany her.

As she walked through the flower-lined path of the hospital area, her steps slowed down.

By now, the fog had lifted somewhat, and the scenery in the lush garden gradually became clearer.

In the viewing pavilion not far away, a figure in dark gray stood with its back to her.

She approached and stopped, letting out a gentle sigh.

At the sound of her sigh, the figure turned around and looked at her.

For a long, long time.

“Dunhuang,” she called out his name.

Peng Dunhuang had been staring intently at her, and it was only when she called his name that he seemed to snap back to reality. “Damn you, Cheng Jingyi, get over here! Damn you… you damn rascal, you little brat! I really thought I’d never see you again in this lifetime!”

Cheng Jingyi smiled.

Peng Dunhuang thumped his chest, then turned his face away. He forced the violent heaving of his chest to steady and calm down before walking over.

Big eyes, round like a leopard’s, bright and piercing. At this moment, his eyes are reddening, moist.

He coughed forcefully and then said, “You’ve finally come back.”
