Chapter 1 The Closest Yet Farthest Person (Part 1)

building, rushing in the moment the doors were unlocked… A slight excitement stirred within her; she wished she were sitting in the consultation room at this moment. Yet the first thing she had to face right now was the hospital’s board of directors. In the words of the former dean, they were a group of troublesome individuals.

“Little Mei, have I been here for two weeks?” she asked her secretary as they walked out of the office.

“Yes. You haven’t taken a single weekend off in those two weeks either.” Mei Yanchun was a charming and lovely woman. Smiling, she quickened her pace and opened the door to the conference room for her. The conference room was already full of people. Seeing the lady, the men all stood up.

She walked to her seat, nodded to everyone, and said softly, “Please take your seats. It’s nice to meet you all for the first time—I’m Katherine Cheng.”

She spoke fluent English, almost without an accent.

Mei Yanchun stood at the doorway, watching Katherine Cheng calmly begin to chair the meeting, then slowly stepped back and closed the conference room door. She knew this was no ordinary meeting—it would determine the future fate of this hospital… Could this beautiful lady achieve what the former dean had failed to accomplish amidst all these challenges? Everything remained unknown.
