Physical education class began, and the PE teachers from several classes were all present. However, when Qi Yang’s gaze swept across them, he spotted a familiar face. The PE teacher from the next class, or more accurately, the substitute PE teacher, gave Qi Yang a friendly smile.
Qi Yang, however, instantly turned his head away coldly. The PE teacher, whose true identity was that of a supervisor, Fu Mingnan, wiped the smile from his face, then smiled inwardly. He thought that Qi Yang was no longer as cute as he was when they first met.
At that time, Qi Yang clearly knew that he might not be normal, yet he not only smiled alluringly at him but also actively invited him into his room.
Fu Mingnan somewhat missed the charmingly smiling Qi Yang from back then.
Fu Mingnan didn’t step forward to speak. The sports teacher from Yi Xinming’s class called out a few people, including the players. Additionally, he also had the players from Fu Mingnan’s class go to the gym to get basketballs and badminton rackets.
It seemed they deliberately avoided Qi Yang’s class, which puzzled Yi Xinming and the others. However, directly asking why Qi Yang wasn’t called wasn’t something a student should inquire about.
Before going to get the basketballs and other items, Yi Xinming’s gaze swept past his classmates and landed directly on Qi Yang. Receiving Yi Xinming’s gaze, Qi Yang, being perceptive, easily sensed a hint of a request for help from Yi Xinming.
Qi Yang had a decent impression of Yi Xinming; the latter hadn’t done anything to make him uncomfortable, and their interactions over the past few days had been pleasant. So, if there was something he could do, Qi Yang felt that in this game, at least in this game, perhaps the dangers and crises were insulated from him.
So he nodded slightly, a gesture meant to reassure Yi Xinming.
“Teacher, I’ll go too. I’ll get the sports equipment for our class.” The sports teacher hadn’t expected Qi Yang to volunteer to go to the sports room. He was momentarily flustered, unsure how to respond. He definitely couldn’t let Qi Yang go; if something happened to Qi Yang in the sports room, he would be the one to suffer.
The sports teacher immediately looked to the supervisor for help. In previous games, there were no supervisors, but there were many cameras everywhere. The person at the top would monitor the behavior of these NPCs through the cameras, but the surveillance wasn’t comprehensive, and there were some blind spots. In those blind spots, NPCs could do things outside the rules.
A supervisor suddenly appeared here. The PE teacher and other NPC teachers discussed it and felt that the supervisor’s purpose might not be as simple as just supervising them; there might be other reasons.
Was the reason Qi Yang?
Perhaps it’s true, after all, he’s someone they were specifically told to pay attention to and take care of. Qi Yang couldn’t suffer any injuries, otherwise, they would be severely punished.
Therefore, the sports teacher let the supervisor make the decision, so even if something happened to Qi Yang, the supervisor would be there to take the blame, and the responsibility wouldn’t fall on him.
Qi Yang wanting to follow didn’t surprise Fu Mingnan too much. He even vaguely saw from Qi Yang’s expression that Qi Yang seemed quite interested in the games he had set up.
If Qi Yang really likes it, that’s great. If not, he can revise it later; these are not issues.
“Okay, you can’t carry it all yourself. Have a few more people from your class go,” Fu Mingnan nodded.
Everyone knew Fu Mingnan’s identity. Although everyone was still in their respective role-playing, no one would disobey Fu Mingnan’s words.
Du Yong was naturally the first to step forward. If it were before, Yuan Yuan would have followed, but the incident of moving books during last night’s self-study had a significant impact on her. It seemed she hadn’t fully recovered yet, so she stood in the crowd, silently watching Qi Yang and Du Yong, without stepping out.
Yuan Yuan couldn’t come out, and Qi Yang didn’t plan to let her follow. The playground was empty, and the fifth number corresponded to death by strangulation/hanging. A ghost had deep ligature marks on its neck, and its eyeballs were bulging out, clearly strangled by something like a rope.
In the playground, there was a basketball hoop. Even if the basketball hoop fell, it would only hit someone; it wouldn’t strangle them.
The number of people clearly increased, but the physical education teacher didn’t reduce the number. Qi Yang and other players went to the sports equipment room to get equipment.
The supervisors also followed behind them, seemingly intending to supervise on-site. This made those who noticed this begin to confirm that something would definitely happen in the sports equipment room.
Some people were so flustered and trembling that they almost fell while walking on flat ground, and were helped by Yi Xinming.
“Brother Yi, my legs are weak.” The player directly expressed his cowardice.
“It’s okay, there are so many people.” Yi Xinming was initially worried that his eyesight wasn’t good enough to find the key numbers quickly, but since Qi Yang was here, with Qi Yang around, victory seemed instantly within reach.
Yi Xinming hoped to continue teaming up with Qi Yang after this clearance, and had no other demands. He was also gradually developing into Qi Yang’s subordinate, even though he had cleared more games than Qi Yang.
Walking into the gym, the items inside were noticeably cluttered, as if they hadn’t been tidied up in a long time. Basketballs and shuttlecocks were all placed in the innermost corner. Standing by the doorway, everyone almost subconsciously surrounded Qi Yang in the very center. Qi Yang was special; someone who could make even the supervisor care so much was certainly not an ordinary player. As for what other hidden identities Qi Yang might have, some players weren’t without their own thoughts, but they had all seen the fate of those who opposed Qi Yang, so they put away their extra thoughts and simply followed Qi Yang’s group, hoping to clear the game and escape the deadly danger.
“Number 5 corresponds to strangulation, I haven’t misremembered, have I?” Xu Yang recalled, then turned to ask Qi Yang.
Qi Yang pursed his lips and hummed softly. He didn’t even spare Xu Yang a glance, as he was quickly observing the situation in the equipment room. Strangling naturally requires tools; he wouldn’t just be standing there perfectly fine and be strangled by thin air.
Qi Yang looked around for any possible props, and soon saw nylon ropes hanging high above some shelves. These ropes would be perfect for strangling someone.
Based on Qi Yang’s observations, a likely scenario would be a rope falling from a height, then ‘accidentally’ wrapping around someone’s neck. That person would panic and try to untie the rope, but the more they struggled, the tighter it would get, ultimately leading to them strangling themselves.
This was the situation in some of the accidental deaths Qi Yang had seen.
It wasn’t just Qi Yang who saw the ropes; many players did.
“Are those the ropes?” Xu Yang raised a finger and pointed to the top of the shelf.
“Probably. So what do we do now?” Yi Xinming turned to ask Qi Yang for his opinion.
“What do you think?”
Qi Yang didn’t immediately give his answer, instead asking Yi Xinming.
“Take it down? Put the rope in that box and cover it, that should be fine.” This was Yi Xinming’s idea.
“Yes, turn passive into active.” Qi Yang agreed with Yi Xinming’s suggestion.
“I’ll get the ones over there, and you guys find some people to climb up and get the ones on the other side.” Yi Xinming was a man of action; since he proposed the idea, he would naturally be the first to act on it.
Another reason was that if he left it to someone else, Yi Xinming was afraid they might be clumsy and accidentally get their own neck caught.
Yi Xinming and two other players climbed onto the shelves, while the others watched from below.
The supervisor stood silently at the door of the equipment room. He didn’t speak, a faint smile playing on his lips. These players were able to immediately discover that the rope was dangerous, which showed they had some observational skills. But to think that this alone would allow them to overcome the crisis completely was to underestimate this game too much.
It wouldn’t be like last night, where not a single player’s body was left behind. Fu Mingnan’s gaze fell on the player with the most refined back among them. He thought to himself and told Qi Yang, “This place will definitely give you a big surprise.”
Qi Yang didn’t want any surprises; he just wanted to resolve the crisis as soon as possible. Even when Yi Xinming and the others climbed to the top of the shelves to get the rope, Qi Yang didn’t immediately relax. The rope might be dangerous, but simply eliminating the rope wasn’t enough, as it was too simple.
The occurrence of a crisis is accompanied by a serial number. This time it should be 5, but so far, Qi Yang hasn’t found the number 5.
“You guys also look for 5, you have to find the number.” Once found, Qi Yang can rest assured after confirming.
The players followed Qi Yang’s words and started looking for 5 everywhere, but after searching for a while, they didn’t find the blood-red number. Instead, Yi Xinming and the others had already taken ropes and landed back on the ground.
“Did you see any numbers up there?” Qi Yang asked.
“No, I’ve looked carefully everywhere, there’s nothing.” Yi Xinming shook his head, feeling vaguely strange in his heart. It shouldn’t be. If it’s strangulation, what else could be used besides a rope? Hands? But if it were hands, there would be fingerprints, and there were no fingerprints on the necks of some of the ghosts in the classroom.
Qi Yang watched the rope in Yi Xinming’s hand. Yi Xinming couldn’t understand it, so he decided to deal with the dangerous item, the rope, first. Another player who had taken a rope put it into a box and pushed the box to the bottom of the shelf.
“Is that better? Then let’s go get the basketballs.” Besides the players, there were also four or five students. The students didn’t stop Qi Yang and the others from hiding the ropes. When they saw the ropes being put away, some even had a slight smile on their faces.
Several students walked through the cluttered equipment room towards where the basketballs were stored.
Watching the backs of the few people walking forward, Qi Yang suddenly turned his head and looked back. The supervisor was still standing there, with a calm and normal expression. When he noticed Qi Yang suddenly looking over, the supervisor smiled at Qi Yang again.
This time, Qi Yang didn’t look away as he had before. He stared at the supervisor, even starting to walk, and quickly stood in front of him.
He asked a question he had wanted to ask yesterday after fainting in the infirmary: “Are you really here to supervise, or…?” Qi Yang paused for a moment, then leaned in close to the supervisor’s ear and said with a slight chuckle, “Are you actually here to check on my safety?”
